Couples & Relationship Therapy

Hello! For over ten years I have been working to support both youth and adults in clinical and hospital settings to address issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, eating disorders, grief, illness and stress management. I bring a collaborative & empathetic approach to my practice and it is important to me that clients feel heard, supported, and validated. Drawing from contemporary practices of psychodynamic, relational, narrative, and cognitive behavioural therapies, I incorporate a focus on a trauma and neurodivergent informed, antiracist, and queer positive practice. I look forward to working with you! Please feel free to contact me to book a free phone consult with any questions at tyler@horizontherapy.ca

The roads have been colourful and the path winding! My own healing journey started with Gabrielle Roth’s 5 Rhythms where stories of joy, shame, trauma and grief danced to the surface. The journey deepened through my three year psychotherapy training at the Transpersonal Therapy Centre (TTC) completed in 2008 integrating the teachings of Carl Jung, Gestalt Psychology, Reichian Therapy and Eastern Traditions of Buddhist Meditation and Sri Aurobindo. Drawing on these practices my work involves creating space for individuals and groups to safely explore the subconscious, illuminate both the shadow and the light that lives within each of us, and explore how life’s challenges are often a gateway to self- realization.

As an intermediate and high school teacher of 25 years, I also work with teens as they navigate the many challenges of this transformative age.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consult, please don’t hesitate to contact me at danielle@horizontherapy.ca

Disclaimer: Please note I do not practice the controlled act of psychotherapy which may address serious emotional, cognitive or behavioural disorders.

With over twenty five years of clinical experience, I offer relational, psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals (aged 13 plus), couples and families. I am experienced in helping people who are struggling with issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief, trauma, personal boundaries, relationships, parenting, gender identity, LGBTQ2S+, sexuality, ageing, and spirituality.

Therapy may explore feelings, thoughts, behaviours and relational patterns to assist with increased self awareness, self esteem and acceptance. As well, therapy helps with learning skills that improve communication, mood, relationships and better management of life’s stressful situations. Sessions may include aspects of mindfulness, somatic awareness, attachment therapy and psycho-education. I believe the quality of the therapeutic relationship is essential and strive to create a warm and safe environment. Clients often share with me that through therapy they discover a sense of greater clarity, peace, happiness and freedom in their lives.

When working with families who have teens or young adults, my work is informed by Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT). ABFT is research based and I have found this model to be beneficial for helping parents and children repair ruptures and develop or rebuild more emotionally secure relationships. A family commitment of 12-16 sessions is required.

When working with couples, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) in combination with a relational psychodynamic approach.

Credentials - Special Bachelor of Social Work, McGill University - Master of Social Work, University of Toronto - Diploma, Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy - Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Levels I, II & III - Certificate in Attachment Based Family Therapy, Levels I & II - Couple’s Institute, Level I - Core Skills Training Program for Emotionally Focused Therapy, in process - Esther Perel’s State of Affairs: A New Clinical Approach to Infidelity - Certificate of completion: TIRP Couples Workshop - Complex Trauma Certification training Levels 1 & 2, Janina Fisher - Certificate in The Magraw Method, an integration of working with the body and mind - Additional trainings in working with youth and issues of anxiety, depression and bereavement - Supervision requirements for CRPO
